  • Our Calendar is fully booked with NEW & RENEW Weapons Carry License Applicants until June 26th.
  • Starting on June 29th we will accept walk-in applicants between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM (do not forget to go online prior to coming in)

 

  • MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATIONS
  • Starting on June 29th we will accept walk-in applicants between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM (do not forget to go online prior to coming in)
  • Courthouse Wedding Ceremonies will remain suspended at this time. We regret this inconvenience and hope to return to our regular scheduled wedding hours as soon as possible.

 

  • When you come to the Probate Court:
  • Please wear a mask, scarf or bandana, etc.
  • Your temperature will be checked.  Anyone having 100 degrees or over will be turned away
  • Do not come to the Courthouse if you are sick
  • Do not bring additional family members with you

 

  • Attorneys, please refer to the Judicial Emergency Order for filings.

 

  • Pro-se Litigants, please mail us your petitions/proceedings, and we will process them as the Judicial Emergency Order allows.

 

  • Vital Records:  All Request must be made by the following ways
    • Starting on June 29th we will accept walk-in applicants between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM
    • FOR FASTER AND MORE CONVENIENT SERVICES:
      • Email us at probate2@houstoncountyga.org.  Please give us the name on certificate, date of birth, relationship to that person, reason for applying for record, phone number and address.  Also attach a copy of your picture ID.  We will call you and get payment by phone and then mail you the certificate(s). OR
      • Mail us a request at the P.O. Box above with name on certificate, date of birth, your relationship to that person, reason for applying for record, phone number and address.  Also enclose a copy of your picture ID.  Send a check or money order or request for us to call you to make payment by phone.  (25.00 1st copy, 5.00 for each additional copy) OR
      • Through vitalchek.com.  Follow their directions on their website. 

 

  • Certified Marriage Certificates may be ordered via the same as vital records above.  We need the parties name and date of marriage and your relationship to the parties.  As well as a copy of your ID.

 

  • For Mental Health Pick Up Orders and other Emergencies, please call us at 478-218-4710 before you come in so we can schedule you an appointment.   Please leave a voicemail with a good number to call you back.  We are monitoring this extension regularly throughout the day.

 

Please be advised that we may be overwhelmed so therefore use discrection as it will be a first come first serve basis.

We will still be social distancing following the CDC Guidelines.

This is going to be a difficult time.

General Information

The Probate Court of Houston County handles Vital Records, Marriage Licenses, Weapons Carry Licenses, Estates, Guardianships and Conservatorships of Minors and Incapacitated Adults along with numerous miscellaneous duties.

We are located in the New Judicial Complex of Houston County. Our hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. You may come in anytime to apply for a marriage license, copies of vital records, and to file documents for estates and guardianships. You must be here by 4:00 pm to apply for a Renew or New Weapons Carry License. However, to expedite your services, you will need to make an appointment for the following services:

  • Name changes/corrections
  • Wedding Ceremonies
  • If you need to speak with a clerk or the Judge regarding your filings in Estates, Guardianships and Conservatorships
  • To discuss a matter with Judge Spires
